COMMERCIAL ZONE
A commercial zone within the haven will provide 14 hectares of facilities including 1.4 km of useable quayside. Here will be an ideal location for specialised ship building and high-tech marine, engineering and manufacturing businesses to employ a skilled workforce. The haven would be specifically designed to attract a substantial fleet of super-yachts and include shore side facilities such as specialised cranes, dry docks, slipways, dust-free warehouses, painting facilities etc. and the large areas necessary for the maintenance of large vessels and their workforce.
1500 marina berths + 50 super yachts
SHOEBURY-WIX MARINA
With a capacity
of 1500 marina berths for yachts up to 20m in length and more than 800m
of quayside frontage, Shoebury-Wix is planned as the largest marina in Europe.
Its inner basin covers 68 hectare and in addition to the to the marina berths
is capable of berthing more than 50 super yachts. It is so large it could
accommodate 'Eclipse' which at 170m is the worlds largest private yacht.
As well as being the main centre
for yachting on the East Coast, it would be the first port of call for visiting
yachts from Scandinavia and the Baltic. As a gateway into the Thames and
the English Channel, its location will help revitalise the local economies
along the Kent and Essex coasts as under-utilised harbours will become destinations
for visiting yachts and sustainable employment will be created
